Smugmug!

I've taken the plunge and finally signed up for SmugMug! It makes image managing and sharing super easy and so far the experience has been a good one. I also registered the domain name www.photomyauto.com which forwards to my SmugMug galleries. I'm hoping to start photographing more cars in the coming weeks to build my portfolio and to get my name out there.

Free Drift Day at Delaware Speedway July 2nd

CSCS @ Grand Bend Motorplex Photos!

It was a good day yesterday at Grand Bend Motorplex for the CSCS event. I was able to get tons of pictures (over 400) but, unfortunately I only had a 1GB and a 2GB card with me so I could've had a lot more if I had more memory. I filled them both up before the day was through, often having to delete some photos to capture more since some better shots would present themselves. I know I did miss some good ones, so that's a bummer. After going through all of the images on my computer I ended up with 336 that I thought were good enough to show the public ;). All images were shot in RAW and have been downsized for the web for easy viewing, and less of a chance of people stealing images. Who wants low res. images anyways? I've uploaded the images to myPicasa account and all are here to be viewed.

My girlfriend and I arrived at Grand Bend Motorplex just after 11am and were there until about 5pm. It was a long day out in the sun but, I had fun and she tells me she did too haha. The drag racing was good, the show and shine was good, the Gymkhana was a little bit of a disappointment (only about 4 cars max. did it) but, it was still fun to watch. CSCS @ Grand Bend, Sunday!

Yes, ladies and gents CSCS (Canada Sport Compact Series) will be held at the Grand Bend Motorplex tomorrow on Sunday June, 22/08. It's about 1.5 hour drive for me and should be one great time (unless it thunder storms of course). I'll be trying out my new lens (Sigma 70-300mm), and it will be my first time shooting at an event of this sort. At this point it is simply for pleasure and getting some experience/trying things out but I will have some business cards with me incase anyone wants them ;).

This CSCS event will feature some heads up and test & tune drag racing, a show & shine, as well as a Gymkhana event that I'm super excited to watch. Of course there will also be a bikini contest along with lots of music and prizes ;). I'm super excited, and chances are if you're in the general area you already know about it. If not, then I hope I can provide everyone with some quality pictures from the day and let you know what it’s all about.

Bullrun Episode 9 out of 10 added to Streetfire

Most of you will know about Streetfire.net, if not then it's about time you find out :P. Streetfire was started as a way to share videos between car enthusiasts and quickly became one of the most popular automotive themed video sites. For a bit now they've been featuring the Bullrun series and finally have uploaded 9 out of the 10 episodes. If you don't know what Bullrun is click that link or watch the videos and find out! HDR Fun

Trying out some HDR, this first one of my 1991 Honda Accord was merged together in Photoshop CS3 using 5 separate images set at EV +2,+1, 0, -1, -2.

This 2nd one was done using 3 separate images, EV +2, 0, -2.

And this last one of the sky (sorry, no cars in this one ;) ) again was merged in Photoshop CS3. I played around with the levels and curves to get a cool, dark and creepy kind of look.

This other one of the sky was merged using Photomatix Pro, a great program for merging HDR images. It has the watermark because I'm using the demo. Anyone want to buy me the full version? ;)

Top 5 Automotive Photography Portfolios

From a simple Google search I came across some great automotive photography portfolios and I've decided to compile them into a list of the top five portfolios. These galleries and images give some great inspiration to pursue a career in the field, along with some great images to look at in plain awe.

#5. Automotive-Photography.com - #5 on my list is Automotive-Photography.com. They have a large portfolio of some great pictures, but what places this website last on my list is the overall website layout and design; it seems a little outdated and "cheap."

#4. JAGimaging - 4th on the list is JAGimaging. Lots of great photos, but I'm not really feeling the style of the gallery set-up. Labeled "Gallery I" and "Gallery II" perhaps organizing the images into better labeled galleries would get you a lower spot in my mind ;).

#3. phAUTOgraphy - 3rd on the list, phAUTOgraphy has a great and easy to use gallery for viewing some amazing photos. With a larger portfolio phAUTOgraphy could be lower on the list.

#2. Todd Johnson Productions - 2nd on the list, Todd Johnson Productions does more than just automotive and each and every image in his portfolio is simply amazing. It was a hard call deciding between 1st and 2nd.... Perhaps maybe a 1.75 place finish?

#1. Easton Chang - Top of the list! EEaston Chang features some amazing automotive photography; by far my fav. on the list, hence the #1 spot :P. Check it out!

There you have it, my list of my Top 5 Automotive Photography Portfolios. For those on the bottom, don't sweat it. These are just MY opinions and I respect the work you all do.

It was a nice day out, and a day where there was absolutely no snow on the ground, is when I took this photos. This were taken with my Canon Rebel XT and the 18-55mm kit lens. Enjoy my 1991 Honda Accord.

The front license plate in the one above was edited out by me.

A new blog from Sean Dinner of Sean-Dinner.com, Sean-Dinner.com Blog and Honda-Chronicles.com. I'm a recent college Graphic Design graduate, and in an effort to further promote myself, my work, and my sites I bring you this! The Automotive Photography blog!

Why automotive photography? Well, for one, I have a love for cars. Two, I have a thing for photography (along with graphic design and photo editing of course). Three, what better thing to do than to combine the two passions together into one fun-filled and enjoyable career Last but not least, after doing some searching it seems there aren't many automotive photographers in this area. Perhaps I didn't do a good enough job searching but, it seems the big thing around here for London, Ontario photographers are weddings and portraits. I like cars :)
